Demodex mange always present in low numbers on healthy pets. Humans can be affected by demodex mange as well. But what most important is that many pets (dogs, cats) depending on their immune status may never show symptoms of demodicosis. There are very few tests which can determine the immune status of your pet.

Dogs develop demodicosis more often than cats. Puppies and younger dogs are more prone to demodex mange than adults. It is noticed that healthy puppies usually clear the infection within a few weeks. Puppies and adult dogs that are stressed or physically ill are prone to develop demodicosis.

Whether we can determine the dogs immune status or not, if it start showing the symptoms of demodex mange, we need to have the diagnosis. It is important to diagnose the demodectic mange (Demodecosis) in its early stages. Early diagnosis of dogs demodex is the key to successfull treatment.

How can we diagnose the demodex mange on dogs? By visiting veterinarian and take a simple test. To diagnose demodex on dogs just by looking at a pet is impossible. Only visit to a vet and а lab test can verify demodicosis. The demodex test is very simple yet it requires to visit a veterinarian. Your vet will scrape the skin where the patches of alopecia occur. The demodex mites can be easily found under the microscope, and if your dog is diagnosed as having this disease, necessary anti demodex treatment will be prescribed. Large numbers of demodex mange mites is verification of demodectic mange and it necessitates anti demodex therapy.
