Accutane is widely prescribed as acne treatment in the US as well as in other countries.
Even though the Accutane had been used not as long as Benzoyl peroxide, the usage of accutane
as one of many acne medications is quite frequent among people with acne. Accutane (
Isotretinoin), also can be found in other brand names: Amnesteem, Claravis, Sotret. It is usually prescribed when most acne medications failed, but can not be used for long time.
I have never used Accutane or Benzoyl Peroxide (BP) in my days when I was going through the hormone changes and had acne. Eventhough there were some acne medications with Benzoyl Peroxide and Accutane as main ingredients. The days when we had just a few acne creams to choose from are long gone. Now, the market of acne and rosacea medications abundant with acne creams, jells, pills and other natural and chemical acne treatments.
While searching some acne and rosacea related blogs and articles, reading comments from people who use Accutane or Benzoyl Peroxide, it has cought my eye that there are many reports of side effects and allergic reactions from people who had been using different acne and rosacea medications with Benzoyl Peroxide and Accutane. There are also some articles and comments from people who used accutane and believed that it had triggered their rosacea.
Dealing with acne or rosacea everyday is not easy. Even though both of these skin conditions (acne and rosacea) are well studied, and there are many treatments and medications available - there is no cure invented yet. Both, acne and rosacea can be controlled with topical creams or pills. It is at most important to use topical acne and rosacea treatments as they considered most effective with less or no side effects. Acne pills are used in severe acne cases, they can not be used for long time and may have some side effects.
